TOI MAHIALL PAINTINGS AVAILABLE AS ORIGINAL OR PRINTSThe Queen is Dead
“The Queen is Dead” explores the emotions of anger and grief. This painting offers an alternative story of her passing. During Matariki, we honour the dead, calling forth memories of those who have gone. Long live the Queen
WHAKATAU MAI
RAA E NGAA HAU E WHAA
Calling In The Four Winds I have been contemplating my life over the last few years, I had a breakthrough moment that I might only have 40 summers left on this beautiful earth mother, Papatūānuku. Each stroke of my paint brush is a memory of my life on this whenua. Each stroke a pathway to forming my identity and also letting it go.
PATU TE TANIWHA
PATU TE TANIWHA
Taniwha are beings, inhabiting rivers, caves, mountains, and almost anywhere. But for Mumu, the taniwha has always lived within him, a presence since childhood.
HIS NAME/WAS IS THE THUNDERBOLT
As he began to wake from the vivid dream, a question lingered.
“What’s your name?” he asked.
The man smiled.
“My name is the Thunderbolt.”
When Mumu woke fully, the dream lingered.
He captured it in a painting that now holds its essence,
a reminder of the healing it offered him
and the power it unlocked within.
